"He would like to know if he can claim his rent paid..."

Our nephew has been living with us and is paying "rent." Included in his "rent" is food, use of washer and dryer, internet, meals prepared, food purchased, etc, etc, etc. He would like to know if he can claim his rent paid. Frankly I don`t know how much "rent" would actually once all the other expenses are subtracted. Any thoughts?
Someone said: If he were to claim the total rent paid you would have to claim the rent received as income but would be able to deduct the expenses, depending on the actual numbers there is actually no reason for him or you to claim because he would receive a credit/deduction and you would have to pay the tax on the income. So, most likely you will have to pay more then he will receive. If you would like to know the actual amounts you would have to work out the numbers.

    This answer closely relates to:
    • Ontario rent claim claim total rent

Someone said: rent is never free you have to pay income tax on it as you would any income. so im told.
Someone said: The landlord should have included your free rent on your T4 - see http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/bsnss/tpcs/pyrll/bnfts/brd/hsng/menu-eng.html
Someone said: You would then claim that taxable benefit as rent on form ON-BEN
