I'm contemplating quitting my full-time, stressful job that has sub-par pay, few vacation days, and long hours to start sitting for several teachers children (4 children and 4 employers with employer identification numbers, therefore taking income tax, ei and cpp from my pay). due to the fact they're teachers, i wouldn't be working for them for the months of july and august. would i be eligible for employment insurance (ei) for the summer months if nothing else comes up? keep in mind i'm not going to be a registered business, but i will have 4 different employers (and records of employment after each school year) and doing childcare in my own home. am i considered self-employed since i'm working out of my home? i live in nova scotia and i've tried searching through the service canada website for similar situations, but i haven't had any luck. has anyone had this situation?

As self-employed or small business owner, you would not be eligible for unemployment compensation for the summer months. You can either plan ahead for 2 months of summer vacation, or take in other children for the summer. A summer mini-daycamp for working parents would be a boon to them while school is out for summer! You could end up doing your best business over the summer. And that's what being self-employed is all about. Use your imagination and provide services people NEED!

I need some advice on my taxes. i am wondering whether i will owe money at tax time. i made $10,930.09 and paid $2,737.06 in income tax, cpp $513.57, ei premiums $196.44 and collected ei making $10,325.00 with deducted income tax of $1,150. am i going to owe taxes at tax time?

Using the E+Y tax calculator they indicate that your taxes your income would be about 21,255. In Alberta taxes owing would be $2,330, since you paid $3,887, you'd be expecting a refund of about $1500 as long as there's no other income
