A deposit normally around 5K is an earnest money given to the seller`s real estate company while waiting for the closing day of the transaction. It signifies your intent to buy the property. During closing that is when you give the whole down payment as discussed minus the deposit. If you back out of the deal, on most occassions, the deposit is forfeited by the real estate company.
