I recently bought about 120 dollars worth of stationery from a site, tokyo pen shop, and i am wondering if i will have to pay any fees when the package arrives. i've never had to pay them before, but i've done some reading and it appears that if the item is over 20 dollars, fees will be charged. this package has been shipped via usps, first class mail to canada. (and also, when will my package arrive? the most recent update from usps was: february 21, 201313:20:00. los angeles, ca 90009 processed through usps sort facility. will it take a long time for it to clear customs?) thank you!

You may be charged HST and broker fees at the border. It may be opened at the border customs. The $120. amount may send up flags. You probably are aware that you can track it almost to your door. You should be home to receive it or they will likely just leave it at the door. I had it happen just recently. Luckily,I was only a few minutes getting home after the truck left the parcel at the door, in full view of the street.

I live in toronto canada and i bought a pair of ath-m35 headphones from a buyer in anaheim. according to usps: my item was processed through usps sort facility in anaheim on december 12 it departed usps sort facility on december 13 it was processed through usps sort facility in los angeles on december 14 it's been stuck at processed through usps sort facility in los angeles ever since december 14, that was the last update. it's been a week now, with no updates. should i be concerned? i want my item to arrive before christmas. is it still in los angeles stuck in customs? or did someone forget to update or scan the item? i tried going to canada post and tracking the item, but they sound they found no results. does this mean the item is still in usa? should i contact usps? and how? the mail is a first class international letter

USPS, due to delays, says 7 - 16 business days for delivery across North America. Wait that long, then worry.

I choose usps first class mail international letter, for a pair of headphones that i ordered from ebay. it was processed through a sort facility in anaheim on december 12, 2012 and it departed the sort facility on december 13, 2012. it was processed through usps sort facility in los angeles on december 14, 2012. processed through los angeles was the last update. it's december 21 now, and it hasn't arrived or any updates. maybe the package was delayed because the predicted end of the world???? :

First Class Mail International is not tracked after it leaves the U.S. You've received the last update you're going to get. CanadaPost is horrible. I don't even ship to Canada anymore -- they lost too many ackages. There's no telling when you'll get it, and it's not the seller's fault.

I have 4 packages. and they're all using usps to ship over here. and they all say "your item has been processed at our origin sort facility at 11:43 am on january 23, 2013 in los angeles, ca 90009." some of them are stuck there since january 23, and some of them are stuck there since january 31st. i check multiple times on canada post's website to see if my package arrived in canada yet, and still nothing.. is there something wrong? how long should i be waiting??

Packages in transit do not get tracking, but only when they are sorted by machines in the Distribution Centers. From Los Angeles they go by air to Toronto for Customs Inspection. Customs does not do tracking. Then they go to Canada Post. They might scan the barcodes, but the data might not get back to the tracking page.

On the 24th it went to an airport for dispatch to Canada, where it would go to Customs before being delivered by Canada Post. You may not see anymore scan data. Crossing international borders will usually disrupt your tracking. Just sit back and wait for it.

It went to Los Angeles because that is where air shipments would depart from. It is in Canada now, maybe Customs Inspection, and you won't know much about it until it arrives.

Ok i won't tell the whole story because that might be a bit long, but what i did in a few words is i bought paintball gear from the usa (california). fyi, i chose first class mail international shipping. when i track my package on usps.com it says it departed from the sort facility on september 8th (friday). so my first question is, since it's in los angeles and really close from the lax airport, will it take the plane to new york and then pass the borders to get to canada, qc or will it pass from another way? my second question is... since the package departed on friday and usps is "closed" on sunday, what happens with the package? will they leave it into a near usps sort facility? if it takes the plane, will they leave it at the airport or they're going to ship it so it arrives in ny on monday or tuesday? it's my first time ordering online :p. i may look like i'm panicking about it, but in fact i'm interrested in how this whole system works. thanks for your answers :)

Your parcel is currently in Los Angeles at their sorting facility. How it gets to Montreal from Los Angeles is the question. I would think that it would be loaded on a cargo plane at LAX and bound for eastern USA, perhaps New York or Boston. Then it would go to a sorting facility there, and get on a truck headed to Montreal. It would arrive at some depot at the border where it will have to wait to clear customs, as Canada Border Services Agency inspects it and makes sure it's allowed into the country, and whether there are any fees to be charged (duty, GST, etc). It then gets handed off to Canada Post, because they are responsible for home delivery of any parcels and letters within Canada. If the CBSA ordered the collection of duty or taxes on the parcel, then Canada Post will arrive at your door with the package and a COD order. They will ask you to pay the duty and a Canada Post handling fee. Expect 2-3 weeks depending on how long it gets stuck at the border being approved. But if they do not ship it via plane, that means a long drive across country through different sorting depots either in USA or Canada. It took nearly 3 days from being accepted at the downtown LA sort facility to finally make it to the sort facility closer to LAX. So imagine the parcel having to be driven by various trucks or loaded on train cars from there to someplace in Houston, then up to Chicago, then over to Detroit, then up to Toronto, and finally across to Montreal. Ground delivery could take 4-6 weeks, and often does. If you want to know what to expect for this delivery, then the only person who can answer that question is USPS. And USPS will usually only give that info to the person who sent the shipment, even if you have the tracking number. But you can certainly try calling or emailing them. What I would ask is "If I use USPS to send a parcel by regular delivery from Los Angeles to Montreal, does it go by plane, train, or truck? And what is the typical route that it would take to arrive there?" They may or may not be allowed to give you "general" information like that.
