I am a single mother with 2 children, my 1st is 15 months and my 2nd is 4 months. I am looking to apply to assistance as I can not return to work. Does anyone know what a single mother would get on assistance with 2 depend ants under 18?

I have noticed there are some single mothers on welfare getting only a couple hundred a month for income. how can a mother of two support her children on $300-$500 a month? also these mothers on yahoo answers don’t work, so they sit at home and have like 6,000 posts on yahoo answers. if they are on welfare how can they afford the internet and be on it all day? i am not trying to be a jerk, but i also notice a lot of the single mothers on welfare (on yahoo) are teens. and i know a lot of single mothers aren’t on welfare, my wife’s mother was a single mother of two at 22 and worked two jobs and never was on government assistance and no child support. what’s going on here? why is caite so defensive?????? i know they are single mothers on welfare because they say so!!!! the write it on their bio and in their posts! i have a a full time job, i have breaks and that's why i am on here. i am not on welfare and i don't have children yet. talk about judging! my wife's mother was there for her and her brother. she worked her jobs at night while the children slept at their grandma's house. she was with them all day, she raised children who are good people!

wow is that all single parents get where you live. How do they survive. Here they get about $1500 I think. Sounds like a lot but by the time you pay rent/mortgage food pay the bills for phone electricity gas water car insurance petrol , contents insurance clothes for the kids shoes for the kids there is not much left over at all so I'm amazed they do it on $500. How do i afford a computer? I was given an old one by my friend and her husband as he deals in computers and he had this one laying about. The Internet if you are on dial up is cheap $6 a month. As I rarely go out I think i should be allowed to spend $6 a month on myself without people like you bitc*ing about it. Get off your high horse and realise some people have no choice in been on government help. I am telling my kids all the time that it is important to have a job and not be on a pension. I have no choice as I am disabled and in pain all the time but they have a choice and they are not going to be 2nd generation welfare.

My sister is a single mother on welfare and has been denied loans because she defaulted on loans after getting into a car accident. are there any trustworthy foundation that give college grants to people in that situation?

unfortunately once you have a student loan go into default, the chances are almost nil that you can even get a pell grant. the govt. is pretty strict with that. Most foundations will not give private grants to people if they are not eligible for pell due to defaulting on a loan. you could go to fast.com or scholarship.com and see what's available but more than likely she's out of luck. Colleges tell you over and over again do NOT default on a student loan no matter what and I understand she was in an accident but she should have contacted them and had it deferred..there are at least 5 different methods of deferrment..she could have deferred payments for up to 4 years with no payment at all.. once it hits default. the govt doesn't much care. funds are limited and they will give the money to someone else who is much more likely to profit "in their eyes'.

I am far from Liberal but if a few more men took responsibility for their actions there would be far less single mothers on welfare. This does not excuse women from their responsibility, it just takes two to tango. To answer your question, no a single mother can not replace a two parent loving family is better for all involved assuming the environment is a healthy one but some single mothers do not have the luxury of that option. It is always a mystery though why people who can not afford to pay for one child continue to bring children into a bad situation.

Mother received only ssi for herself and tanf (welfare) for her three children but the tanf was received by her durring 2007? the tanf exceeded $3000.oo total during 2007. i understand ssi does not qualify for this package, but does the tanf qualify this person?

No, because TANF is not a taxed income. Only taxed income of $3,000 will qualify you for the stimulus package.

We pay poor women to have babies. Why? Voltaire said, the comfort of the rich is dependent on the abundance of the poor. We pay them to produce cheap labour and cannon fodder, or mothers of more cheap labour and cannon fodder. I did not believe it until I saw it with my own eyes. The sad thing is, the pittance welfare gives is NOT enough to live decently on, but it IS more than some of these women could make at the jobs they can do. AND poverty is so stigmatized that poor kids seem to have greater "needs" for high status clothes and shoes than rich kids. The solution is easy. REQUIRE women who accept welfare to be using birth control and NOT GET PREGNANT while on the dole . If they do, cut them off, Make the father support her family. If he can't, put him in the military and let her live on his check. The next step would be, no welfare at all, except for disabled people and the elderly. If a teen girl gets pregnant, she can rely on her family, the fathers family, her church, or give up the baby and go on with her life. But remember, we are paying poor people to reproduce, and refusing to educate them for a reason. We need an underclass to do our dirty work. In the States, we've got Mexicans, but they keep rising up, you know, hard work, get an education, take care of their families, so the son of the floor sweeper turns into the manager...

I am not able to recieve assistance either. my gas bill got so high here in missouri its not even funny! is there somewhere i can go without being on welfare where they help you?

Everyone is right. Don't avoidthe bill people. I am on a fixed income early retirement due to illness. It is not enough. Just be honest, straight forward with whom your speaking with whether it's ANY utility, Church, Outreach program or whatever. Look into relief for shelter, if that is a concern. Don't ACT like you think they want you to act ..You'll probably be wrong, like if you may be thinking surely a crying desperate mother will be approved. If you do cry, it's Ok.. your under bunches of stress right now...and it WILL change. Be yourself, or as I saw on a liscense plate, URUBU! I found it IS hard to ask for help, I've been independent (relatively) all my life. I'm 53. It sux, but you have a baby to care for and I'm alone. Big difference Be ready to prove your income, (or sadly)..how poor you are , to any group you are asking help from. It is best to have too much info than have to go back home and wait in line again all day. Trust me atleast on THAT one!! These people normally understand. Keep your pride, and even though it is tuff sometimes, a good attitude. Don't be dramatic...be real. I wish you well and good luck and God Bless you. PS.. Also, have a budget with you (handwritten on paper is fine, usually...with what money comes in after taxes each month, and how you spend and how you spendi it. They might not like it if you have cell phone... or DSL or cable TV...you know "luxuries". They can show you ways to cut cost's as well. Things WILL get better, I know how hard it is now...but you will really will feel better once you have a "PLAN" that you and a counseler put together...together. because the system is broken. when I worked as a bank teller, it used to kill me on the day that welfare checks came out each month -- I'd be cashing welfare checks and giving out food stamps to people (who weren't working ) which were more $$$ than I earned in the month working full time. The system is really and truly broken when the government is paying people more to NOT work than those of us who are working make.

There is a large group of women who are having babies when they can't support them. they rely on wic, medicare, housing subsidies and other benefits that they don't have to pay for. nothing is free. people who are actually responsible with their lives are the ones paying for those who are not. i hate being a taxpayer because my money goes to people who won't take responsibility for their own lives. should i quit my job and become a single mother on welfare so i can cash in on some of my own tax dollars? i couldn't agree more, cactus jack truth- in the area i live in, people who receive benefits/welfare/medicare are better off. i squeak by every month (paying taxes) and i have seen welfare people in sears buying a pwer wheels ($300) for their child using a calcard (the welfare debit card thing they give now instead of food stamps and vouchers). it's a messed up world when the receiver of charity is doing better than those who are donating.
