I live close to the vancouver area and build homes for a living. The question as to how much the average home would cost someone to build is very difficult to answer. I would say that the short answer is that you should be able to build for 150-180 per square foot. The real answer lies in what house, how much volume in the house (vaulted area etc) what sort of land prep and engineering will be required. How involved the home owner wants to be as it can add a considerable amount if an unexperienced home owner wants to be part of the process. If the house has been built before or if it is completely custom. There are so many variable and I have worked on homes that cost less than 100 dollars per square foot to homes that cost close to 1000 dollars per square foot. hope this helps
