    Q. What is the best approach to request a lower credit card interest rate?

    Powered by
I have 5 cards maxed out at $5,000 each at about the same interest rate, %27. i have $15,000 to pay them off. is there anyway the ability to pay a card off can be used to leverage a lower interest rate, or should i just pay off 3 cards and not worry about it?

"And then ask for a lower rate..."

Pay your cards off first, and then ask for a lower rate. That's what I did. Seems to me, like you are still 10k short of paying off all your cards. Five maxed out cards, is why your rate is so high. It appears you are nearing your maximum amount of debt. No doubt, that is why your rate is so high.

    Q. What's the lowest credit card companies will lower my interest rate?

    Powered by
I want my credit card interest rate lowered now that i paid it off. what's the lowest that they would lower it with a credit score of 759? the current apr is 19.53%.

The lowest you can't get is 11%, I believe Discover offers that. you might want to go here to compare them, http://www.bestcreditrates.net

    Q. How can i lower my (wifes) credit card interest rate?

    Powered by
My wife opened up a few credit cards that i was not aware of and they have really high rates, i can not afford to pay them off right now, so how can i get a lower interest rate or what are some tips to deal with this? no need to comment on my wife, i am furious enough as it is.

"If she is just plain abusive about credit and cannot control herself you need..."

There is no downside to calling the credit card company and asking them to do just that: lower your rate. Whether they will or not will be determined by how much of a risk they think you are. All creditors are "risk based" and they base decisions like this on whether they are better off working with you or holding the line. If you have an 18% rate and asked them to reduce it, they may do that because right now their costs of finds is very, very low. But you have to "plead your case". Don't regale them with the wife's story, just say things are tight and unless they work with you you may not be able to pay. I'm not sure what kind of advice to offer on the wife's abuse of credit. In 28 years in this business I've heard it way too many times. If she is just plain abusive about credit and cannot control herself you need to seek credit counseling. If she is doing it for other reasons, then another type counselor may be due.

    Q. Should i try to negotiate a lower interest rate on a credit card?

    Powered by
I am in the process of paying off debts (thank you dave ramsey), including a credit card with about $9000 on it. i am able to make the payments and i am current. despite this, a lower interest rate would be nice. is it possible and advisable to try to negotiate a lower rate under these circumstances?

Can't hurt. Call them and ask the person if he's authorized to do that. If not, ask to speak with someone who is.

    Q. Will asking for a lower interest rate effect my credit score?

    Powered by
If i call all my credit card companies to inquire about lowering my current interest rates, will they have to pull my credit to lower my interest rate? will it affect my credit score?

"They don't usually have to pull your credit report..."

They don't usually have to pull your credit report, but they might if you were at the default rate in order to evaluate their risk. It won't change your score though, only you ability to pay off the debt...now that will impact your score.

    Q. Is it easier to get a lower interest rate on your credit cards full or empty?

    Powered by
My credit card interest rates are outrageous! i have 5 cards, and they vary from 18%-29.99% interest rates. i am doing a debt consolidation, from my dad, and i wanted to know if i would have more luck getting lower interest rates when they are maxed, or empty?

"Don't think you'll get a lower rate either way..."

Don't think you'll get a lower rate either way, but surely not with them charged to near their limits. If you are borrowing from your dad to pay these off, you should give him the cards and promise not to use them until he is paid off.

    Q. What is the lowest interest rate credit card that i can apply for?

    Powered by
I currently have a 17.99% apr credit card. i've had it for almost a year now. 11 months to be exact. i want to go to a lower interest rate card. does anyone know a good low interest rate card?

It all depends on your score, but give a try to Washington Mutual, Capital One or Orchard Bank. All recently gave me a 0% APR for 12 months. With Washington Mutual it helps if you have a checking/savings account with them, since then you can pay the stuff immediately online.

    Q. Is there a way to negotiate a lower interest rate on existing credit cards?

    Powered by
Has anyone ever negotiated a lower interest rate on an existing credit card? i have paid down all my cards and my credit has since gotten better. i still have these ridiculously high rates (like 20% and higher). i do not want to open new cards with lower interest rates because then i will lose out on credit history. i do not plan on continuing to use these cards, maybe just a gas purchase here and there.

"If you request it and if your credit history is good..."

It depends on who is the backer of the credit card. If you are talking about department store cards, you would be better off dropping the history and using the scissors. What you can do. Call the customer service center and simply ask for a lower rate. A lot of card companies are willing to lower their rates if you request it and if your credit history is good . Some may just want to keep your business. If you point out you have a zero balance and would like to make purchases, but are hesitant due to the high rate, they may offer. However, in my experience it is best just to ask. Oh and I was told you can request every six months. So if you ask today and they lower it a little, call back again. My husband has worked for several major credit card companies and he assures me that asking is the only way to start the process. We have lowered our rates. Since you have 20% and higher though it might take awhile. You may want to ask if your company has a lower rate card you can transfer to. Though most will push a variable rate on you, and that may not work well if interest rates go up. Try for a lower fixed rate card if you can. Good luck.

    Q. What is the best way to refinance your home with a lower interest rate if your credit isn't the best?

    Powered by
I was wondering what is the best way (who to go to) to try and refinance your home with a lower interest rate. i have no clue where to go! the credit score is pretty low, but still need to lower monthly payments. serious answers only please and thank you! it's not me that didn't pay my debts...i got stuck with stuff from my ex husband...that's why my credit isn't what it used to be...thanks!

"If your credit is bad this is not going to happen..."

if your credit is bad this is not going to happen, no one is lending money these days to those that fail to pay their debts.

    Q. Can you request a lower interest rate on your credit card?

    Powered by
I have a capital one and a chase credit card. i've had them for at least a year and i've never made a late payment on either. i do have balances on both and was wondering how and if i can request a lower interest rate?

"I called one of my banks and requested they lower my rate..."

I don't know what these people are talking about. Yes you can request it and yes they can. It depends on your standing with them and other creditors and your overall credit history. Personal experience tells me this. Earlier this year, about 3 months ago, I called one of my banks and requested they lower my rate. They did, cut it in half. It went into effect the next billing cycle. Then, about a month later I noticed that another one of my accounts had been lowered, automatically, also cut in half. I did not request this one be lowered, it just happened. I do not carry a balance, so it does not affect me, but it was still nice. It cannot hurt to ask, but they can say no. They will pull your credit and that will ding your score, but if you carry a balance then it is probably worth it. Good luck...
