    Q. Does paying credit card 3days late affect credit?

"Company and tell them why you were late..."

It would unless you call the credit card company and tell them why you were late . Always put your creditors on the loop if payments will not come on time. If this happens, you will have missed payment on record and your credit score would drop a few points down. Ask if they can reconsider the late payment and it goes away from your record. There is no harm in asking.

    Q. Will a student loan payment that was late 3 or 4 days affect my credit?

    Powered by
So i was a few days late in paying my sallie mae student loan bill. it said my account was deliquent 3 days. so i paid it. my question is will a payment that is late only a few days affect my credit score? i know for credit card payments you have to be atleast 30 days late for it to be reported to your credit score, but i don't know about student loans? am i in trouble?

"A 3 day late payment affects your score..."

Every lender has their own rules on whether they have a grace period. Typically a creditor will not report a delinquency until it is at the very least 15 days past due. Reporting a loan late by 3 days is ridiculous. I doubt it will have any effect on your credit score, but get copies to be sure. You can also google to find out if a 3 day late payment affects your score . I wonder if Sallie Mae also reports 1 day late.

    Q. Urgent please help!! will this hurt my credit score? i accidentally made one late payment on my credit card.?

    Powered by
I have had the card for about 6 months. i made the payment one week late because i had written down that it was due on the 25th. when i paid online, it wasn't posted until 28th (i guess they only count business days, not the weekend). it turns out it was originally due the 22nd, not the 25th. so if it was due the 22nd and posted the 28th, it is 6 days late. i've never paid any bill late before and always pay more than the minimum, if not the whole bill. the only reason i was late was because i had a family emergency and my head wasn't all there. my question is will they (citi) report the lateness to the credit bureau after 6 days late? (technically only 3 days without the weekend thing) if they do, how much will this hurt my credit? has anyone had any experience contacting a credit card company to have charges removed? is this worth trying? how should i approach doing so? i know this is a lot, but i'm worried. thank you in advance.

"Its better to do so before hand or immediately once you've made the late payment..."

Many times companies extend the Grace period. Call them. Its better to do so before hand or immediately once you've made the late payment. any way call them and explain that you've had a family emergency and made a mistake. They will look at your payment history and probably all will work out in your favor. Remember to be polite but insistent . Ive had many customer svc reps tell me they couldn't do something only to have their supervisor do the impossible.

    Q. About how long will it take to see my credit score go up?

    Powered by
Right now i have a credit score averaging 690 on all 3 credit companies. i just paid off a collection from a medical bill on an accident i had years ago. i only owe a couple hundred on a credit card that i always pay off regularly. i do have about 5 credit cards because i thought they would help to improve my credit. three of those cards i got in the past year and the other 2 over 3 years ago. i paid off 2 car notes already and co-signed for my brother's loan. i have 2 bad marks on my credit reports (beside the collection) for being 30 days late. one of them was 2 years ago for my capital one where i decided to pay on line and i used my savings account, but i didn't realize until i got my next statement that my bank didn't allow it. recently my brother didn't remember to pay his car loan and it went on my credit report. so if everything goes approx. how long will it take for my score to reach 720? also could i dispute the capital-one late mark since i tried to pay and didn't know?

"3 years old and a couple other late payments that were about 30 days..."

I just checked my score and it is 691. It went up from 609 to 691 since July. I had a late payment (about 90 days) that is now about 3 years old and a couple other late payments that were about 30 days late that were much older. My guess is the thing that really bumped my score was my debt to credit ration went down quite a bit recently. I am giong to be lowering it even further with my tax return and really going at it to bring my debt to about 30% of my available credit after that. A lot of it is just patience and making payments on time. My father told me once that paying even a few dollars over your minimum payment will help (not sure about this, maybe someone else can answer that one). As far as Capital One, My very late payment was through them and they wouldn't budge. I don't know if your account is still open with them (mine was closed), but I believe it was over a year or two they wouldn't erase from your report. I have also heard they their cards aren't the best for your credit report since they only report the amount of money you owe and not your credit limit (can harm the debt to ratio factor in your report).

    Q. How long after you pay off a late / missed payment does your credit score go up on experian?

    Powered by
I stupidly forgot to pay off a small amount from next directory £50 in total £10 monthly payments! for a few months. i applied for a mortage the other day and they told me that they couldn't help me as there may be a problem with my credit, this was a huge shock as i always pay off credit cards, phone bills etc but overlooked this bloody next directory payments. i logged onto experian and saw my credit score was 500 -very poor, arghh! i have since paid off next, how long before my credit score goes up? i was told by the mortage lenders not to apply again for 3-6months!?! this has really scared me as i want to buy a new house, has this ruined my chances and when do you think i can apply for a mortage again? i always pay off all my bills and have had a clean score for years its just this thing i stupidly overlooked :( your help / advise would be greatly appreciated this has really has scared me :(

"Not they are paid remain on your credit record for 6 years..."

In the UK debts whether or not they are paid remain on your credit record for 6 years . But it depends upon what part of the UK you live in. Here is a link to find out more regarding your situation and what to do to get that mortgage. Hope this helps http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/life/debt.htm

    Q. What happens when you close a credit card but have a small balance left over?

    Powered by
I recently closed a credit card account because they wouldn't reverse a $15 late fee (i paid 3 days late on my statement which had a total balance of $16). i never paid a late fee or finance charges before because i always pay my bills on time and in full, never carrying any balances. they closed my account but won't reverse the $15 late fee, and i feel like paying everything off except for the $15 late fee. what are the implications of this? will the non-payment of a $15 late fee hurt my credit score?

"Pay the late fee and make sure that you cut up the credit card..."

You were late on the payment. Pay the late fee and make sure that you cut up the credit card. Remember, when you charge something on your card, you owe the charge. If you don't pay on time, you owe the late charges if they are within your contract. Don't be foolish. Pay and get out. Your credit card is not a right. It is simply a contract between you and the company indicating that they will pay charges on your behalf and charge you according to the contract. If you do not pay then they will ding your credit score and probably already have. Who cares? Save to buy what you need. Save to prepare for extreme need. Believe me it wont hurt you. Live within your means. This means that you don't buy on credit what you can't afford to pay. It is likely that my credit score (what is that anyway?) is near zero. I don't care nor should you.

    Q. Will i be approved for a credit card?

    Powered by
My credit score is about 657 (at least on one report). in the past i had 3 credit cards, now i only have 1. i pay the bill on time or early every month. on the other card(2nd one), i was 30 days late once, and then paid it all off and closed it. on the third card there were no problems, and i closed that one too. i want another one, but i don't think i'll be approved. i also have a big car payment. i know that i shouldn't have closed the other two, but i found out to late. if i apply for another card, will i be approved?

"And then you will see a link for the card and application..."

Yeah, I was in a similar situation to yours. I was approved for the Orchard Bank American DreamCard MasterCard. My FICO was actually 640 and I was approved. Go to www.FreeCreditCard.info and on the left hand side click "OK Credit" and then you will see a link for the card and application. Good luck

    Q. Credit score, bills, managing money..please help!?

    Powered by
Ok so im going to spill everything in this, like a public diary. i get payed min wage, and i get about 300 or 350 every paycheck. i am a horrible spender. basicly impulse buyer. i buy anything. sometimes i buy things without even looking at the price. i have a fear of my credit being bad and not being able to get a house or a car. i have 3 current bills( now please dont critisize me for only having 3 bills cause my grandparents pay the rest) i owe 30 to my dad, 80 to a hospital, and 33 for a magazine subscription. it dont seem like alot, and im not in credit card debt, but i feel its the start of a bad habit. i barely have a paycheck any more. 3 days if i am lucky! can someone please help me take charge of my money before its too late!

"Like your bills don't report to the credit agencies..."

You may not have a credit score yet because it sounds like your bills don't report to the credit agencies . You can get your credit report for free each year at annualcreditreport.com. Not having credit makes it difficult to get a loan, but it's better than bad credit. Do some research online on how credit scores work and the dos and don'ts so you can start on the right track. Spending too much money is a bad habit, but you can fix it. The earlier you learn to manage your money the better. Start with a budget and set goals. Budgets can seem overwhelming, but yours can be really simple since you don't have a lot of bills. Budgeting is simply making a plan for how you will spend and save your money. You earn 300 each check and have to pay __ in monthly bills. Are these monthly bills, or just a set amount that's owed? Subtract the monthly bills from your income (300-350) and that's what you have left to divide between debt, savings and spending money. Everytime you get paid, put 10% (or more if you can) toward paying debt until it's paid off. Once that's done, open a savings account and start putting 10% of everything you earn in it. This is a great habit to start and will serve you well the rest of your life. Having money in savings means less worrying about paying regular bills, having an emergency fund in case something unexpected happens, and comes in really handy if you want to buy something expensive. A great way to monitor your spending is to only carry the amount of cash you intend to spend; leave the rest at home or in the bank. Q. I have been working on my credit score for the past few months trying to get the magic score of 630?

    Powered by
I paid everything that can be paid and i am so close to the goal but i don’t know what i can do next. i know time heals all wounds with credit scores but i hoping to get into a house this summer. my scores transunion 589 experian 539 equifax 598 would opening up a new line of credit help? what can i do to get that extra 30 or 40 point i need? things on my report… credit card, open 3 months ago . current, never late 500 limit 390 balance old credit card, closed for 3 or 4 years car loan, never missed a payment except the last one when there was some confusion over the pay off amount. shows 30 days late on the last month. older car loan, paid closed for over 5 years now a few late hits 2 old phone bills sent to collections years ago. paid about a month ago 2 old medical bills sent to collection years ago paid about a month ago all the phone bills and medical bill show paid on my report except both medical still show “open” at experian. i guess there a little slow

"You only have one open trade line (your credit card..."

It would help to know how your score is calculated: 1. 35% payment history 2. 30% total debt owed 3. 15% length of time establishing credit 4. 10% types of credit established 5. 10% inquiries for new credit and the ratio of new accounts vs. established accounts Well, from what you described on your report, you only have one open trade line (your credit card). Here's the problem It's only been open for 3 months - Length of payment history (#3) is affected here and it's still classified as a new account becuase it's less than 1-3 years old which affects the new account/established account ratio (#5) You have a $390 balance with a $500 limit- That means you're at 78% of your limit. A rule of thumb is that you should use no more than 30% of your available credit. That right there would help you the most at this point right now. 9 months later, request for a line increase. The "Old" credit card that's closed. Although hindsight's always 20/20, that could've been your star account on your report. The longer you have an account, the better because 15% of your score depends on how long you've established credit. It's too late for that account, but that would've definitely helped your score The most recent car loan that you had- Any time that you have a late payment, it can wreak havoc on your score. It's a long shot, but if you can, try to contact the lender to see if they can re-age the account in an attempt of goodwill. Stress to them that you have never paid late and due to the circumstances the payment was late due to a discrepancy with the payoff amount. It's paid now, they may, just may let you make it on that last payment. The older car loan- What's done is done on that one. It's 5 years or older, it's not going to help (or hurt) your credit anymore than it already has. The collection accounts (2 medical and 2 old phone bills) I would continue to monitor closely. Although it would be better to have negotiated to have them removed in return for paying them off, it's important to have that account report "closed" instead of open. You may have to dispute the accounts as inaccurate. Later on at least a year or so, you may want to re-dispute all the accounts to get them completely removed from your report So to recap, pay that credit card down, that should give you a little bit of a boost. Also, another thing I almost forgot to mention, if you know a close friend or family member with excellent credit, ask them to add you as an authorized user on one of thier oldest credit cards in excellent standing. The ideal account would be one with a high limit, a low balance with a perfect payment history that's been opened for several years. The activity from that account once you're added will definitely help your score. Continue to make sure that you pay on time. Good luck!

    Q. Can i get a mortgage with bad credit with the following circumstances.?

    Powered by
Here are my circumstances: transunion: 567, esperian: 537, equifax: 582 annual income before taxes: 39,000, i have worked for a year i own a home: $479 a month taxes included i have had 8- 30 day late payments in 2 years i have no other debt monthly, making my debt to income ratio 85/15 (i'm pretty sure) i paid off my car, no late payments last two years. i paid off my providian credit card no late payments past 2 years i have college loans in deferment until 2008, i'm currently working on my mba now the bad news: i have had 3 derogatory accounts, that i have just currently paid off, 2 were credit cards, one was a medical bill that never made it to collections i don't think, so they haven't been factored into my credit score yet as being settled. i dont have any credit cards and all i pay a month is $479 on my house that i have owned for about 3-4 years.

"Right now your middles score is a 567 so here are..."

First the bad news. Your scores are way low and what really hurts more than anything is the late payments on your mortgage. So even with the low scores, the late payments on the mortgage hurts you the most. The other thing that could hurt you also, is when you paid off your credit cards, you closed the accounts as well. If you paid them off and kept them open, this is a good sign. Now the slightly good news. Even with your scores you could possibly get a home mortgage, but only with a subprime lender and you would get very high rates. Now if you are buying another home and keeping your current home you will have to put down at least 10-20%, but only if they allow you to buy another home. And even if you are going to sell your current home in order to buy another home, with your scores, you will have to put money down anyway. But the best advice I have is wait a year so you can have 12 months of on time payments; this will raise your scores. Also if you closed those credit card accounts, see if they will reopen them and if they do, use them and pay them off every month; this will also raise your scores. Lenders want to lend their money, but they don't want to lend to people who are late on any secured loans, especially HOME loans. Most people will tell you to wait at least 3 years or more to get your credit scores up. But being that I worked in the mortgage business before I was pregnant (which was last year) and I helped people to raise their credit scores, you only really need one year of on time payments to get a subprime loan. But if you're going for a prime loan, wait at least 3-4 years of on time payments and please stay on your job as well. The more job time with the same employer, the better. It shows stability! Right now your middles score is a 567 So here are some Credit Score Goals below. SubPrime: 580 middle score Prime: 680 middle score Best Interest Rates: Over 720 middle score Hope this helps!

I have had my bank of america (formerly mbna) credit card since 2003. i always make at least the minimum payment and have always been on time. i monitor and pay my bill on online each month. i normally set up my next's month's payment before the statement is even generated. last month, i set my payment on the 10th (my due date has consistantly been the 11th each month) and i let it be for another month. when i went into my account around the 15th to set up my next month's payment, i noticed a $39 late fee had been charged on my account. i looked at my online statment and the due date had been changed to the 9th that month. so, my payment came in one day late. i called boa and explained my error and apologized for my mistake. they would not waive the fee. they told me they understood my anger, but that the fee was valid. even though i have been a member for 5 years and never paid a late fee before. i thought i would get a little cooperation from them for being a good customer. nope. i spoke to 3 different people and no one would remove the fee. needless to say, i am paying this account off this month and closing it. i understand it was my error for not going back to double check the due date, but i feel they could have made an exception for me that one time. they re-assured me that it would not affect my fico score, but i was still mad. are there any credit card companies out there worth doing business with and aren't vultures about stealing your money. yes they are stealing my money. they didn't do anything to earn my $39. i understand they are not a non-profit company, but they have made plenty off of me in finance charges over the course of 5 years. my request to waive one late fee was a very appropriate i think. no one is perfect and one mistake in 5 years is hardly worth being punished for. i may not close the card because of the credit history i have with it, but i definitely will not pay any more finance charges. i will pay in full each month when i do decide to even use the card. i may just tuck it away in a drawer....

"I would seriously consider getting a different card..."

I'm surprised they were so hard-nosed about that. I would seriously consider getting a different card, and transferring any balance you have with them. But - Yes, they can charge you. Even for one day. Even if the day changed. You did get a statement ahead of time showing the new due date, but you didn't look for it. (I wouldn't have, either). My only suggestion for the future is NEVER set up an automatic payment so close to the deadline. I always set them up one week before the deadline - then should ANYTHING happen, glitch, or otherwise, I have time to deal with it, even make a payment by phone, before the deadline comes up. Again - I'm surprised they're being so nasty - especially considering your long, perfect track record. I say, dump them.
