    Q. Can i deduct property tax and mortgage interest on my investment property which is a condo i am renting?

Yes, you can deduct mortgage interest as well as property tax and maintenance from your investment property in Canada. If you own multiple units and you are the one managing them you should also open a property management company and charge your properties a management fee which is also tax deductible.

    Q. What to do now that i can't pay to break my lease?

    Powered by
Here is my issue. i had to break my lease due to relocation. i followed all of the proper procedures to break the lease. i put in a 60 day notice, cleaned the apartment, paid all my final bills, however i was unable to pay the fee required to break the lease. when i turned in my keys, i told them this and asked about a payment plan. i told them i would pay for the days the apartment will be vacant until the new tenant moves in (the first weekend in november) and then i could pay them 450 for the next two months. they denied my request and told me it was an improper move-out and that it will go into collections within 10 days. they said that they could not make payment arrangements with me. because they have already rented my apartment and will not be suffering major losses, except for the days the apartment will be vacant (which i offered to pay upfront), i feel that they could've worked something out with me. could they have? i already have some sort of animosity toward this complex anyway, as 1.5 years ago they let my roommate out of our lease without my consent, and then would not allow me to leave the property saying i was still bound by the lease. they breached the contract then, but i couldn't afford to take it to court. it was cheaper for me to stay. anywho, so i guess my questions are- could they have worked something out with me? or is what they are doing even legal (someone told me they couldn't charge me if they've already rented the apartment)? and what rights do i have? should i call corporate? i'm not denying that i have to pay. i understand that it's a fee for breaking the lease and i'm obligated to pay, so i'm not trying to find a way of not paying. i just want to avoid it going into collections, as my credit took a hard hit when they let my roommate leave without my consent. i had other bills i was paying at the time and not having a roommate meant i couldn't pay those extra bills, hence collections! i just have an odd feeling that they may be pulling the wool over my eyes. can someone clarify this for me?

"You are already breaking your lease..."

They certainly can try and work something out with you, but they are definitely in no way required to. You are asking for a favor, and they denied your request, as is their right. You are already breaking your lease; you are not entitled to special treatment just because you owe a huge amount of money in one lump sum. Pay what you owe, or be sent to collections, where it will accrue interest and your credit will be destroyed. The issue with your roomate over a year ago is completely irrelevant.
