I am going to be late on my payment a few days. if i get in an accident will i be insured?

Your insurance company shouldn't cancel you immediately if they don't receive payment on the due date. However, most car insurance companies will cancel you if you don't make the payment soon after that. I would call your car insurance company immediately and let them know you will be late and when you are making payment . This should prevent cancellation of your policy.

Yet again we have someone asking a question plainly stating that they are in England and we get replies from correspondents giving their opinions although they are from the US which renders their answers worthless. If you have watched any of the current TV programmes showing the work of the Police road patrols you will have seen the driver who has been stopped and claimed that they are insured. When the Police driver checks with the insurance company involved and finds that the driver has defaulted on an insurance policy on which they had been making payments they are immediately deemed to be uninsured and their car is seized on the spot. Apparently it is a common ruse to take out an insurance policy, paying the premiums monthly.After getting the insurance certificate the payments cease leaving the driver with a certificate which they can then produce. With the present proliferation of ANPR cameras this can be picked up immediately so is unlikely to succeed for any length of time. For the benefit of our American cousins, ANPR cameras are Automatic Number-plate Recognition Cameras which can detect cars which have no Vehicle Excise Licence, MOT or insurance. It also finds drivers who have no driver's licence and cars which are reported as stolen. Big Brother is alive and well in Britain!

I did not have money in bank for monthly payment,insurance firm canceled policey even when i offered to pay three days later,they are asking me to now pay a cancelation fee even though it was them who canceled,they are refusing to send me proof of my no claims,which is for 2 years untill i pay up,i have gone with another firm but because of the no claims i have had to start from scratch can they legaly do this.

Insurance companies don't cancel policies if payment is missed by only a few days - read the small print on your policy. There is something that you're not admitting to us.

I was depending on my work to pay me a day before my payment of car insurance. i checked my online bank statement today to find i havent yet been paid, therefore did not have enough money to pay this months car insurance. my bank statement says that the money was paid out, but on the same day was paid back in again as i didnt have enough money. is there any charges for this reversal and how will this effect my insurance?

Oh, yes, it counts just like a bounced check, as far as your bank is concerned. Your insurance will ALSO charge you for a bounced check, and send you a cancellation notice on your policy. You'll have to pay via money order, or some other way that doesn't involve the possiblity of your payment bouncing.

I was still making payments on a used vehicle and when it was declared totaled by ins company i had to find anothe vehicle, make up the difference due on used car loan and then go find another vehicle. i also had neck and back injury and sought medical attention and physical therapy referred to therapist by my doctor. what am i due for this mess. i am more stressed than every before because now sales tax come into play, the extra amount added to a new car note because i had to have transportation and now more stress trying to figure out what steps i need to take to get ready for even more years of car payments. i missed a total of 3 days off from work, three doctor visits and 4 trips to see a physical therapist. now i am going through mental stress because i wasn't ready for long term payments but because of owing on the other car i had to find someone who would accept my delima. thank god i was able to purchase a new car but now am strapped thanks to this ugly accident.

NO, they don't need to pay your "down payment". They only owe you waht the old vehicle was worth - NOT payoff, NOT loan balance, JUST actual cash value, and sales tax and title for the ACV of the totalled car. Neck & back injuries will depend on your no-fault status, the severity of injuries, and what state you're in - you won't automatically get any money for "pain and suffering", and if your medical bills are out of proportion, you might not even get straight medical bills. Espeically if you're in a no fault state.

It depends on how late your payment was and how long a grace period the insurance company gives you. If your payment was 15 days late but they only provide a 10-day grace period, then your policy would have legally expired and you should not be covered. Read the fine print in the paperwork from the insurance company. I'm sure it's all spelled out there somewhere.

I have missed to consequtive car insurance payments, i had an accident a few days ago. i payed my car insurance in full the next day after the accident. i never recieved any notification for my insurance company stating that my vehicle insurance would be cancelled. for the record, i like in australia and generally make my payments monthly. where do i stand? did i have insurance or not?

Who are you insured with? There are some insurance companies who are more understanding than others when it comes to matters like this. Many Insurance compaines will have a grace period, and generally if you miss a payment, they will send you a letter telling you that they will re-draw the money on a set date (usually 2-3 weeks) and if the money does not clear at this stage you will be uninsured. Other companies will just send you a letter saying that you are no longer covered. Did the staff ask you if you had had an incident before they accepted the money for your insurance? They should do this if you were out of cover at any stage. All you can do is call the claims department, explain the situation, and see how you go. I know of people who have been able to claim even though they were temporarily out of cover, but it really depends on which company you were with, and whether the claims officer is willing to make an exception. I can no longer afford to make my car payments and car insurance. i was using those checks that you get from credit cards. now i am in serious credit card debt. it's too late now to try and sell the car because i have missed my 8/15 car payment. i haven't called the bank yet to tell them my situation. is it a big hassle when i go to call? i still owe $8,000 on it. i wanted to get some advice before i call.

Listen, first of al you need to sit down and WRITE all of your income and all of the expenses. The most important ones are rent, food, lights on and transportation in that order. Then Create a Budget and follow the budget. STOP spending in things like going out, dining out, clothing. You need to tight up for a while. Then if you can, pay only the minimum amount in each credit card. If you can't then, stop making payments to the credit cards and start paying off the car how do you do that every extra dollar you can spare after rent lights food and gas put it towards the car. Then line up the credit cards lowest to largest (balance) and follow the same structure, roll the car payment into the credit card payment and so forth until you finish paying off everything.

I missed 2 months. will it go to collections if they just cancelled it? can i call and ask if i can pay just a portion and fix this? what can i do to keep it from going to collections? i just called them myself. you guys are right. my payment would have been a renewal and since i did not pay, they simply cancelled and i owe nothing. not even a cancellation fee. =)
