    Q. If i port and exsisting mortgage to a new house and need to borrow more money do i need a down payment for the whole amount or just the new amount?

If there is not enough equity then you would need to put a down payment for the blended mortgage amount needed to close your new home purchase.

    Q. Would it be a good idea to have the total amount paid in direct tax (ever) printed on your pay check?

    Powered by
And the total amounts claimed in direct benefits. that way if you claim back less than 1% or 5% of what you have paid you get priority on national services. i suggested in a previous question that people that had more than 100% of their total paid tax back in benefits that they should lose the vote too but that apparently upset a few people

Suppose it depends on the country. I live in the UK, and I can never tell if people are in the UK or USA on here as they've mingled us together. I would have claimed back 0% so far in benefits... There are about ten or twenty families a stones throw from my house who would be in the 100%+ bracket and I know for a fact there are one or two families who would be in the infinite% bracket because they've never done a days work in their lives. I suppose it's a good idea but if you've no intention of getting a job you're never going to see that figure... Perhaps, in addition to it being printed on the pay check, it should also be printed on the benefits documents that people receive so that those who never work and never intend to work can see the bill they are running up and, hopefully, it might shame a few of the bone idle spongers in to getting a job. I agree with you about the vote thing too... No point in giving the work shy the vote because they'll vote for any government which keeps them sat on their backsides and getting free money.

    Q. I have the total taxes paid at 7% sales tax rate? what is the formula to calculate the total amount purchased?

    Powered by
Ex: paid $3500 in sales tax at 7% what is the formula to calculate the total amount of my purchases.

    Let x = total amount of purchases .07x = 3500 x = 3500 / 0.07 = 50000 So the purchases totaled 50000.

    Q. How would the economy and society change if everybody's total taxes were cut to 10% total of gross pay?

    Powered by
I mean, if all the taxes on wages, on goods and services, the total amount of tax everybody has to pay amounts to no more than ten percent of his total income? would this change be for the better of all or of most or of only some? what if there were absolutely no socialism, i.e., no social security, no welfare, no freebies and that families were held legally responsible to feed and clothe their needy kin and the charities handled the rest?

Well eventually everyone would be better off because of economic growth that would almost sertainly accompany such a proposal. If real wages (buying power) grew by 10% a year then it would be better to be in the bottom 25% of incomes in 20 years than in the top 25% today. With such low tax rates people and businesses would flock to the U.S. to set up their headquarters even if they didn't do their manufacturing here. In the short term of course some people would be worse off. As a student that pays for my own tuition and living expenses I end up paying negative taxes every year on the ~$14,000 of cash income I make a year. I'd be worse off if instead I had to pay $1400 at least in the short term but it would likely be made up when I was looking for a job after graduation or when I received a higher than otherwise salary for the rest of my life. I don't know about being legally required to feed needy family, other than maybe parents. I have some lazy welfare queens in my own family and I would rather go to jail than to give them money. If it was a social expectation which it would likely evolve to it would still provide incentive but also provide the family incentive to not abuse it.

Tax on short term capital gains from the sales of shares where you paid security transaction tax is 10% for AY 2008-09 and 15% for AY 2009-10 while there is no tax on long term capital gains. Q. The total average amount of tax dollars deducted per average work week?

    Powered by
Is there a formula to figuar the total tax amount took en out each pay day for the standard average hourly worker ? i was told by a private business owner it would come out to approx 31% on a $100.00 per person ? what would be the ball park average % wise ? i am planning to maybe start a new job ? i am retired us army & live in georgia . thank you.

There's a lot of factors in it. It depends how much you make and how many dependents you claim. There is no set % per $100 for everyone because of these differences. You will have to pay for social security at 6.2% for the first 106,000 or so. Medicare at 1.45% for your entire paycheck. Then your federal and state taxes will depend, like I said, on amount of income and number of dependents you claim. The ballpark is around 30% total.

    Q. Whats the tax / total amount i need to pay for this computer!!?

    Powered by
How much is this computer (http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/d etail.jsp?ev=prodview&pid=12182 74631490&skuid=1624074&isse arch=true&_requestid=40287#spec s-overview) gonna cost with tax in colorado

The cost will be the sales price + sales tax. The sales tax is calculated by multiplying the sales tax rate times the sales price.

    Q. If a married couple changes from a joint tax return to two returns, does this affect the total amount on tax?

    Powered by
The couple lives in michigan. the husband is contemplating moving to illinois to accept a job that would require him to live in chicago. his wife would continue to live in michigan. therefore, they would have to file separate individual tax returns instead of a joint return. all other things being the same, would they have to pay more taxes in total because of having to file separate returns?

Well, the federal return wouldn't need to be a separate filing from his wife's just because they live separately. They might have some state issues because Michigan's going to want to tax his Illinois earning by treating him as a resident (his family still lives there, his big home is there and his condo is in Illinois (presumably)), and Illinois will definitely tax his money earned in Illinois whether he lives there or not, and will want to tax his worldwide income (including for example, interest and dividends earned from a Michigan bank) if he lives there. If the tax rates (counting city taxes if applicable) in Illinois and Michigan are the same or close, he won't pay more tax, because all states allow a credit against their tax for taxes paid to another state. He really should talk to a tax adviser directly if he wants to make sure he gets this right. There can be nuances here that won't be addressed adequately in this forum.

    Q. To whom do we pay the tax on car title amount?

    Powered by
For example if i buy a car from my friend, who is willing to sell it. it is said that you also need to pay the tax on the car title amount, so the total cost is car price + tax on it,,,calculated according to various factors. but my simple question is to whome do we pay the tax, will i pay the total amount (cost + tax) to my friend or my friend onlt gets "cost" and tax is paid to mvd?..when i go for my license plate with the title..to them?

When you go to the DMV to transfer the title into your name, at that time the DMV will charge the tax. Just pay your friend the cost of the car and he gives you the signed title.

    Q. I am trying to find the subtotal amount if i know the sale tax rate and total amount paid?

    Powered by

The subtotal is the amount paid divided by (1 + sales tax rate) For example, if you paid $79.86 and the tax rate is 6.5%: 79.86 / 1.065 = $74.99 I hope this helps. Gary
