    Q. What would happen if i double my monthly mortgage payments?

Hello Stanko. Not all lenders will allow you to double up your mortgage payment so make sure it is one of the mortgage options outlined in the pre-payment privileges portion of your original mortgage agreement or call the bank directly. The advantage of course is that you will pay your mortgage much quicker. You could reduce a 30 year amortization to 10 years by doubling up each and every payment. The interest savings would be huge in that case. Even making one extra payment each year would result in 4-6 years shorter mortgage repayment, this will also save you thousands. The biweekly accelerated payment schedule does exactly that. You pay 1/2 the monthly payment every 2 weeks. 26 biweekly payments will mean the equivalent to 13 monthly payments per year! The best part about the accelerated payment program is that you don`t really notice that extra money you have put on your mortgage because it doesn`t come out all at once. I hope this helps! Q. Can my husband and i afford this house?

    Powered by
K i already posted this before, but i added some details so im re posting again we already own a home, we have owned it for 6 years now, we bought it at 175000, property taxes at estimating 2000 dollars, and mortgage payments of about 900 dollars, we want to sell it, we owe about 140000 left, we want a home that costs 375000, so i know we have to speak to our bank or mortgage broker, but we are just curious, and not sure how serious we are about this other house yet, so we dont really want to make any hassle right now, or monthly salary is about 5400 combined. we want to still have money left over for ourselves such as groceries, savings, and vacation, and whatever, we dont want to be be stuck at work, living in a nice home and working all the time to pay off our mortgage you know? so my question is, could we afford this house without worrying about "are we going to have enough money left over for toilet paper"? and my other question is, in your opinion do you think the bank/mortgage broker will lend us that money? okay i forgot two small details we would be putting down a $63000 down payment, and when i said our monthly salary is 5400, that's after taxes and such, if i were to include taxes then monthly salary is about 7200, oh and we took a look at it from the outside, and noticed the roof needs to get done, so we were hoping to offer 360000 for the house depending if anything else needs to get done, so supose they accept our offer, then the house would cost 360000, i don't know if that changes anyone's opinion???

You would probably get approved as you will fit the DTI requirements, but may I make a suggestion? Look for a house that sells for $315,000 or one you can make an offer at $315,000. At this price point, with your $63,000, you will be at 80% loan to value, be able to get the best financing options and rates, you will save yourself from paying mortgage insurance and it better fits your budget so you can live a comfortable happy life.
