    Q. If i claim rent will i get a bigger tax return in ontario canada?

    Powered by
I paid about 12 grand in rent last year will i get a bigger return if i claim rent on my taxes?. i live ontario canada, i know i am going to get a very small return but will this make it larger?......i made under 20 thousand if that helps.

"You each claim the rent you each paid before..."

It will get you a bigger refund, It sounds to me like a $400 or so difference. But be careful on this, if you lived with someone, whether it be a roommate or partner, it can get a little complicated. If you have a room mate, you each claim half of the total rent paid. If you have a partner that you lived with all year, only one of you claims the housing credit, usually the one with the lower income. If you lived with a partner for part of the year, you each claim the rent you each paid before you moved in together and then only one of claims for the rent after you moved in
Someone said: This year (2012) the forms allow you to enter the amount paid to rent in 2011 but it does not affect the outcome like it did in previous years. Ontario Gov't is screwing everyone. I wouldn't mind losing that refund if it actually went to something important like education or healthcare and not former gov't officials retirement funds for their many years of service.

    Q. What is minimum income for tax return in canada?

    Powered by
I am living outside canada for like few months and i made low income. i want tofinishing my tax return for last year. can i put like 6200$ for 2007, if i pay rent like 5300$?

"And you may be eligible for rental tax credit only only if paid in canada..."

The min income is about $9000, your personal exemption amount. you put into your tax return what u earned in Canada last year, not "like $6200$", and you may be eligible for rental tax credit only only if paid in Canada. One issue is, as u left Canada for a few months, whether u were a part time resident last yr, or resident of cda for the whole year. In the latter case, the income earned outside cda may be taxable in cda. If u left in 2007 and had not cut off all cdn ties before your departure in 2007, u are considerd as a cdn resident for the whole last yr.

    • Canada rental payments were to deduct on income tax return

    Q. In my 2006 tax return i have claimed utilities from revenue canada because my basement appartment is on rent.?

My question is that can i claim part of my utilities like hydro, gas and water bills from revenue canada. please answere my question. thanks.

"You can claim the proportion of the property that you rent out against income..."

Your Question is not clear. But if you own a property in Canada and you rent out part of it, you can claim the proportion of the property that you rent out against income made by the rental. So if 1/2 of the property was rented out, you could deduct from the rental income on your taxform, 1/2 of property taxes, 1/2 of utilities payed by you (not the tennant) and any maintenance to keep the rental part rented.

"For example - you can claim a deduction for that part of the home..."

New York State has a low income rent credit, but it is the only municipal entity that allows its residents to enjoy such. It is usually $90.00 and then for those over 65 years of age it goes up to $265.00 But, other than that I don't know of any municipality that allows a rent credit or deduction Check with your Canadian Province, it may be that you are misunderstanding I have checked the Canadian laws for you See Attached Self-employment Expenses If you are using your house as part of your business - a home office for example - you can claim a deduction for that part of the home that is so used to conduct business activities. If you are a homeowner you can claim a portion of your mortgage interest, property taxes and capital cost allowance. If you are a renter you can claim a portion of your monthly rent. You can include in your deduction a share of the utilities, insurance or home maintenance allotted to the area of the house set aside for business use. For each of these expenses you can claim a percentage equal to the percentage of your home that is reserved for business. You can’t use these items to create a loss that could be deducted against other sources of income, however. Of course, any expenses solely related to the business, such as supplies, travel and client entertainment, are fully deductible. CRA forms T2124 and T2032 contain a guide entitled “Calculation of Business-Use-of-Home Expenses” that will help you calculate your allowable claim. IT APPEARS THAT IT IS ONLY DEDUCTIBLE FOR BUSINESS USE OF HOME

    Q. If i don't claim the rent i paid last year what happens on my tax return?

Will i get a tax return? i will file a tax return with only tuition, residence credit, and t5 from ontario works. will it effect ontario works or my osap if i don't claim my rent? my landlord does not want me to claim it and for personal reasons i would just rather not cause a problem. i am in ontario canada.

"You will lose approximately $400-$500 in the ontario property tax credit..."

You will lose approximately $400-$500 in the Ontario Property Tax credit. It does not affect ON Works or OSAP. BTW a REFUND is what you are talking about. The "return" is the piece of paper you send to CRA calculating your refund.

    Q. How much will i receive on my tax return?

    Powered by
I'm in toronto, ontario, canada. 19, single. these are approximate figures: total income: $20,500 federal tax: $2,015 ei: $375 cpp: $830 rrsp contribution: $200 education payments: $350 i'm on a whole bunch of different calculators and i get different figures. any help greatly appreciated. can you add rent into your tax return? if so i pay $500/mth.

"You can file the rent on the ontario portion of your federal return..."

WIthout slugging the numbers through a 2007 tax program, I can give you some highlights: you can file the rent on the ontario portion of your federal return. You may be eligable for an ontario tax credit based on your income. Eyeballing you're numbers I'd guess an $800 refund. Total tax owing should be about $2500. You'll get credits for the RSP and Eduction. Plus an additional credit for the months you were in school.

    Q. What should i expect for my income tax return? is there a new 'hardship' refund in canada?

    Powered by
If a person earns about $23000 a year, no kids, only claims about 2000$ in rent no rsp's what should their return roughly be? someone told me they got some kind of 'hardship refund' or something like that that was an extra $350 back, but she has kids, has anyone heard of this? i need to learn more, thanks!!

"The federal government introduced a new credit for having children under the age of eighteen..."

There is absolutely no credit on a Canadian tax return with the title of "hardship refund", no matter which province you live in. Your tax refund is based on a number of factors, not the least of which is the amount of your income. You would also need to know the amount of tax, EI and CPP premiums withheld from your pay throughout the year. These will be detailed on your T4 when you receive it. In 2007, the Federal government introduced a new credit for having children under the age of eighteen. This credit does amount to about $300 per child. This could be what your friend was talking about.

    Q. Could you please help with an ontario income tax return question?

    Powered by
I am a single mother with one child, i live with my sister and brother in law, and i didn't work. i provided unpaid childcare for their children in exchange for rent. the only thing i have collected was canada child tax benefit and the universal child care benefit for the year. how do i file for this? will they question?

"Receive child tax benefit payments or gst credits..."

You should file your tax return otherwise you will not continue to receive Child Tax Benefit payments or GST credits . The only income you will have to include in your tax return is the Universal Child Care Benefit. The Canada Child Tax Benefit is not taxable. Since your income is so low, you should not have any taxes owing. It is possible that the tax authorities may question how you can survive on such a low income but as long as you can explain your situation there should be no problem. Below is a link to the Canada Revenue Agency site with information on Child and Family Benefits.

    This answer closely relates to:
