    Q. Social assistance no longer allowed to claim rent on income tax ontario ..... 2012 income taxes changes canada claiming rent ..?

YES YOU HAVE TO CLAIM RENT IF YOU ARE ON ODSP YOU DO NOT GET A ONE LUMP SUM PAYMENT AS YOU HAVE DONE IN THE PAST BUT IT WILL BE PAID MONTHLY STARTING JULY 2012 IT IS CALLED THE TRILLIUM BENEFIT BUT YOU HAVE TO FILE YOU TAXES JUST THE SAME AS IN PAST YEARS CLAIMING YOUR RENT JUST IN OTHER YEARS THE GOVERMENT FIGURES GIVING US A LITTLE EVERY MONTH WILL US MORE THAN GIVING IT ALL AT ONCE I SAY BS PEOPLE USED TO USE THIS YEARLY CHECK FOR SOMETHING BIG LIKE BEDS FOR R KIDS PAY FOR ACTIVES FOR FOR KIDS ALL THIS MONTHLY CHECK IS GOING TO DO BUY AN EXTRA LOAF OF BREAD
Someone said: Its just another way to screw the people who really need it the most..I cant understand why do the goverment pick on people who are on ODSP...O well back to selling weed..
Someone said: or somebody stealing to get what they need
Someone said: government blows monkey balls
Someone said: Go get a job!!! most of you are free loaders!! :(
Someone said: to that last person. f off. disability means that those on it CANT work. so before you speak up. do more research
Someone said: You still claim rent on income tax as always. You just wont get a large lump sum return. It will get divided into monthly payments starting July 10th. The interest on your return goes to the Ontario Government. And there is a max amount like $100.00 or something small. So once more the little guy gets screwed. This is why last year - the Trilium Benefit was brought in very hush hush - no one knew about it until this yr at tax time. Write to you MPP and complain. Sounds like robbery to me.
Jus1Chance said: To the idiot who said "Get a job", just for the record even though I am in Alberta....I did NOT, and I repeat I DID NOT suffer 2 strokes on purpose. AND, I contracted Hepatitis C from a series of blood transfusions in 1987, which I DID prove and I have started to receive some compensation from the settlement. I did not have an ectopic pregnancy that ruptured and almost killed me on purpose. I have worked hard, I was a library professional, executive secretary amongst other white collar jobs and I don't like my hand but it is the one that I've been dealt. HOW DARE you make far reaching statements like that!!! Some of us may be milking the system but I think I speak for ALL of us who have been dealt unfair hands in life, if we could we would all be working. ARSEHOLE!!!
Someone said: Get jobs. Get off your high horses. If your knees still work.

    Q. Social assistance no longer allowed to claim rent on income tax ontario ..... 2012 income taxes changes canada claiming rent ..?

I agree with the above statement. I am a senior, not on ODSP but in the same category, as I receive Pensions from the Government. I pay $960.00 Income Tax each year, but my Tax Refund this year is only $450.00. This is $750.00 less than it was last year. I depend on my Tax Refund, to buy any extra items that I could not afford all year. I hope that when the Trillium Benefit kicks in, in July, 2012, I will receive some of the $6,700.00 Rent that I paid in 2011. Will just have to wait and see, as it did not help me out on my Income Tax 2011 Return. Also, if this Trillium Benefit is not until July 2012, what about the months between Jan. and June ? Will this Trillium Benefit be retroactive where my Rent is concerned. ?? Just curious ?? E. Sinnott
